Genetics, Certified Seed & Kabiobio Fingerlings

Looking Ahead

Fingerling quality is one of the most important drivers of aquaculture performance. Through Kabiobio Bream Farm, the Tilapia Centre of Excellence platform is developing a biosecure certified seed system for Nile tilapia farmers in Zambia and the wider region.

Solving the Seed Bottleneck

Many aquaculture farmers struggle because they start with poor-quality fingerlings. Weak genetics, inconsistent sizing, poor health screening, poor transport conditioning and limited technical support all reduce survival, growth and profitability.

Kabiobio Bream Farm will be created to address this bottleneck. As the commercial seed-production arm of the platform, Kabiobio will focus on producing genetically certified Nile tilapia fingerlings through controlled broodstock management, hatchery biosecurity, nursery systems, grading, conditioning and farmer support.

๐Ÿงช

Biosecure Hatchery Systems

Controlled broodstock, incubation, nursery and fingerling handling systems designed to reduce disease risk and improve consistency.
๐Ÿ“

Fingerling Grading & Conditioning

Improved size uniformity, transport preparation and post-stocking performance support.
๐Ÿค

Technical Support for Customers

๐ŸŒ

Seed-System Partnerships

Support for public hatcheries, development programmes, schools, farmer groups and regional seed access models.

Why It Matters

Good genetics and seed quality affect the entire production cycle. Strong fingerlings improve survival, shorten production cycles, reduce feed cost per kilogram and increase farmer confidence. For commercial producers, seed reliability supports investment planning. For smallholders, it can be the difference between a failed pond and a profitable production cycle.

Kabiobio's Role

Kabiobio Bream Farm is designed as the platform's commercial hatchery and nursery arm. Its role is not only to sell fingerlings, but to demonstrate best-practice seed production and support a more reliable tilapia seed system for Zambia and neighbouring markets.
